TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Police boarded a Tigerair Taiwan flight after it arrived from Japan to detain a passenger involved in a physical conflict with a flight attendant, reports said Saturday.
Just before Flight IT753 from Fukushima was about to land at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport Friday evening, a flight attendant checking whether passengers were wearing their seat belts inadvertently bumped into a passenger who was still standing, the Liberty Times reported. The passenger, a woman named Chang (張), 71, said the incident caused injuries to the right side of her face.
The flight attendant named Liu (劉), 33, apologized and offered medical care and an icepack, according to witnesses. However, Chang argued in a loud voice, and slapped another flight attendant.
The crew reported the incident to the pilot and alerted the Aviation Police Bureau. After the landing, Chang and Liu said they would sue each other for battery, while the flight attendant said she would add public insult to the charges.
Tigerair Taiwan emphasized that safety was its leading principle. As the airline maintained a zero-tolerance policy against violent behavior, it said it would consider placing Chang on a no-fly list.
