TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Thunderstorms on Saturday are affecting both Taichung International Airport and Taiwan Railway operations.
Taichung International Airport suspended ground operations from 8:16 a.m. on Saturday. Some flights are delayed, and flights connecting to Taichung may also experience delays at other airports, according to CNA.
The Civil Aeronautics Administration urged passengers and those picking up travelers to monitor flight status closely and contact airlines for updates. Airlines and airport staff are updating passengers via display boards and announcements.
Taiwan Railway reported flooding on the tracks between Miaoli and Zhunan, as well as falling rocks at the eastbound tunnel entrance. Currently, trains are operating in both directions on the westbound track.
The company has activated its Level 1 emergency response and dispatched maintenance teams to the affected areas. To prevent delays from spreading, some southbound trains will terminate at Zhunan, while certain northbound services will terminate at Miaoli.
On the Neiwan Line, the level crossing at Zhongfeng Road is temporarily impassable due to water over the tracks. Maintenance crews are on site, and passengers are advised to check the Taiwan Railway website and station notices for updates.
The Central Weather Bureau has issued heavy rain and extremely heavy rain advisories for 14 counties and cities, warning that frontal systems could bring short but intense downpours. Localized heavy or extremely heavy rainfall is expected in Hsinchu and Miaoli counties, according to LTN.
Taichung and Hsinchu cities may see heavy rain or localized downpours. Areas from Nantou to Tainan, as well as north of Taoyuan, are also at risk of heavy rain.
