TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – There is no shortage of designated plastic garbage bags and there are no plans for price increases, so there is no need for hoarding, the Taipei City Government said Friday.
The Iran War and the difficulties facing shipping passing through the Strait of Hormuz have created fears that the petrochemical sector will run out of materials to produce plastic bags. Taipei City Department of Environmental Protection said the expectation is bags will become more expensive, per CNA.
However, manufacturers and retailers reported the supply situation is normal and no price rises are planned. Procurement for the bags is based on an annual budget and conducted according to an annual contract, the department confirmed.
Current reserves can last three to six months, according to the city government. It also noted that the price of the designated bags is not based on production costs, but on the cost of waste disposal.
