TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s representative to the US, Alexander Yui (俞大㵢), responded to accusations of workplace bullying Thursday.
Yui said that work standards and management styles are open to discussion and acknowledged that many standards must keep pace with the times, per CNA. He expressed regret if those differences caused discomfort among colleagues and said he was willing to improve through communication.
Yui has been accused of arbitrarily dismissing government employees and scolding staff.
The diplomat said that as a public official, he should be subject to public scrutiny and oversight. However, Yui said he hoped criticism would be based on verifiable facts to maintain objective public discourse.
Yui said he hoped the accusations would be investigated and clarified as soon as possible so that government work in the US could continue smoothly.
Yui was previously accused of spending NT$8 million (US$246,845) on luxury furniture, though a subsequent foreign ministry investigation estimated a total of NT$1.39 million.
