TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) welcomed a friendship delegation of advisers from Thailand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday.
The group consisted for a large part of overseas Taiwanese who had spent decades living in Thailand, but also included Thai lawmakers friendly to Taiwan, the ministry said on its website. The delegation was led by Suwan Hemwimon (何素珍), who had lived in Thailand for half a century, promoting positive relations with Taiwan.
At a dinner in the group’s honor Tuesday, Lin emphasized Thailand’s role in Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy. He also praised the overseas Taiwanese for having fully integrated into Thai society while still promoting economic and trade relations.
Suwan had also organized blood donation drives and cooperated with the Taiwan office in Bangkok to help flood disaster victims in Southern Thailand last year, the minister said. The group was also a pioneer in the promotion of Taiwan’s “integrated diplomacy,” Lin added.
