TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s China Airlines unveiled its second Pokemon-themed aircraft, the Pikachu Jet CI2, created in collaboration with the Pokemon Company at a press conference on Wednesday.
Thirteen Pokemon characters are featured on the fuselage of the A350-900 aircraft. CAL President Chen Han-ming (陳漢銘) said the jet will fly to Tokyo and serve long-haul routes such as Seattle, Phoenix, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Auckland.
In remarks to the media, Chen said that since launching the Flying Pikachu Project in 2022 with the airline’s first themed jet, the program has been well received by passengers, prompting the company to expand it with a second aircraft.
China Airlines said a 33-person painting and decoration team created the aircraft design. Pokemon and Taiwanese-style elements are also incorporated into in-flight amenities such as tray liners and pillowcases. Collectible Pikachu pens and sticky notes are also available onboard.
Pokemon Company Corporate Officer Fukunaga Susumu said at the unveiling that the first Pikachu Jet CI has been popular with travelers worldwide since its launch, leading to the renewed partnership with the airline for the latest jet.
The Pikachu Jet CI2 features 13 Pokemon characters, including Clefairy, Dratini, Dragonair, Dragonite, Jumpluff, Swablu, Altaria, Cresselia, and Vanillish.
