TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s airlines have begun limiting passengers to carrying a maximum of two power banks on board and banning their use in flight.
EVA Air and China Airlines said the new rule took effect Tuesday, restricting each passenger to two portable chargers and prohibiting in-flight charging, per CNA. Starlux Airlines and Tigerair said they will adopt the same measures starting Wednesday.
The International Civil Aviation Organization has issued related guidelines, and Taiwan’s Civil Aviation Administration has coordinated with airlines to implement them. Domestic carriers have since moved to align with the new requirements.
Taoyuan International Airport Corp. Vice President Yu Chung-li (余崇立) said the airport will step up public awareness efforts, noting that lithium batteries are banned from checked baggage and subject to inspection in carry-on luggage. Passengers who purchase power banks in restricted areas will be informed by store staff of the regulations.
