TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei City Government said Monday that the city will host the 2029 Intelligent Transportation Systems World Congress and has begun preparations for the global event.
CNA reported that a project office has been set up to coordinate planning and resources across government agencies. Officials said the event will show how artificial intelligence can be used to improve traffic management and urban governance.
The Intelligent Transportation Systems World Congress is a global event that brings together government officials, companies, and researchers to share new technologies and ideas for improving transportation. It focuses on smart mobility solutions, including the use of data and AI to make transport systems safer, more efficient, and more sustainable.
The project office will act as a cross-sector platform linking central and local governments with private partners. It will also establish decision-making systems to keep preparation work on schedule and running smoothly, UDN reported.
The city government said it will form working groups and hold regular meetings to monitor progress. Resources will be directed toward smart transportation projects, including AI upgrades and planning for technical site visits, per Liberty Times.
Officials said the theme of the 2029 congress will be “Harmonizing an AITS World,” referring to AI-enabled Intelligent Transport Systems. The city will use the event to present its public transport system and smart traffic environment to an international audience, per Economic Daily News.
In the three years leading up to the event, Taipei will prioritize the development of public transportation. Plans will focus on safety, efficiency, sustainability, and user-friendly design as part of broader smart city goals.
