TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — KMT Chair Cheng Li-wun (鄭麗文) has accepted an invitation by Chinese leader Xi Jinping to visit China next month.
China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported that Song Tao, director of China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, said on Monday that the CCP's Central Committee and Xi have invited Cheng to lead a party delegation to visit Jiangsu, Shanghai, and Beijing from April 7 to 12, per CNA. Song said Cheng has repeatedly expressed a desire to visit China since taking office.
He added that he was authorized to extend the invitation to promote peaceful relations between the CCP and the KMT and advance cross-strait ties. Song said Chinese authorities will coordinate with the KMT to make proper arrangements for Cheng’s visit.
Xinhua later reported that Cheng had expressed her thanks and accepted the invitation. She expressed hope that both parties will work together to promote peaceful cross-strait development, enhance exchanges, maintain stability in the Taiwan Strait, and improve people’s well-being.
