TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Coupang on Thursday began operations at its fourth Taiwan logistics center in Taoyuan’s Guanyin District, which integrates AI-powered systems and robotics to automate warehousing and improve delivery efficiency.
Coupang said its other three logistics centers are also located in the city. The company aims to use these facilities to expand its “Rocket Delivery” service, which can provide next-day delivery to around 70% of areas in Taiwan, per CNA.
Mark Ross, Coupang’s chief of warehousing and logistics, said the new logistics center in Taoyuan will create over 3,000 jobs. He added the company also plans to expand its logistics facilities in central and southern Taiwan.
The company said it has stepped up efforts to streamline the shopping and delivery process, allowing customers to choose their preferred delivery date. It has also offered the option to pick up orders at convenience stores and return items at designated collection points.
Robert Porter, Coupang’s chief global affairs officer, noted the company last year received approval from the Ministry of Economic Affairs for its investment, making it the second-largest foreign investment project in Taiwan for the year.
Porter said that from 2022 to 2024, Coupang has spent over NT$90 billion (US$3 billion) on integrating technology at its Asia-Pacific facilities, including automation equipment, AI-powered systems, driverless forklifts, and picking robots.
He added that some of these technologies will be introduced in Coupang’s Taiwan facilities to support the ongoing expansion of storage capacity. The company said the upgrades will help its partners deliver products to customers more safely and quickly.
The report said Coupang’s revenue in Taiwan could have reached NT$30 billion last year. With its ongoing expansion and the advantages of its own logistics facilities, the company is set to challenge local e-commerce players Momo and PChome in the Taiwanese market.
