TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ma Ying-jeou Foundation announced Friday that it will launch a formal inquiry into alleged fiscal irregularities involving the foundations of former CEOs Hsiao Hsu-tsen (蕭旭岑) and Wang Kuang-tzu (王光慈).
Following the meeting, the foundation revealed that board members Li Te-wei (李德維), Hsueh Hsiang-chuan (薛香川), and Yin Chi-ming (尹啟銘) have been appointed to investigate Hsiao and Wang, per Liberty Times. The board explained that the decision came after reviewing evidence provided by acting CEO Tai Hsia-ling (戴遐齡).
The three-person team will report their findings to the board once the investigation concludes.
When asked whether the foundation would pursue legal action against Hsiao and Wang, Li said that the board had not yet discussed this issue, per SETN. He emphasized that any future actions would require board approval.
Li also declined to comment on the details of the discussions held during the Friday board meeting.
Regarding Tai's appointment, Li clarified that it was not on the agenda during the meeting, per UDN. He added that Tai would continue serving as acting CEO until the board formally approves her appointment.
Before the meeting, Li pointed out that the board had appointed Wang as CEO through an official process, with former President Ma Ying-jeou’s (馬英九) approval of Wang documented in the meeting minutes, per UP Media. Li's comment confirmed Hsiao’s earlier statement that Ma had approved of Wang’s appointment and that it followed proper channels.
Amid the ongoing dispute at the foundation, a KMT lawmaker noted that the party base is reacting negatively to the developments, per UDN. The lawmaker said there is concern over potential infighting within the KMT, with some members commenting that the party “did not even put in the same effort when combating the DPP.”
A KMT insider suggested that those involved in the feud are showing signs of immaturity. The insider lamented that neither Ma nor former National Security Council Secretary-General King Pu-tsung (金溥聰), who claimed Ma authorized him to address the alleged irregularities, have learned from past mistakes.
The insider criticised Hsiao for revealing a health issue concerning his former boss and suggested that KMT Chair Cheng Li-wun (鄭麗文) should not have disregarded her position to join the dispute “as if she were a political commentator.”
