TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Xu Chunying (徐春鶯), a Chinese spouse indicted for spying, also covered up the visit of a Chinese official to Taiwan to meet businesspeople and politicians, reports said Thursday.
Prosecutors charged Xu on Wednesday for spying and forgery under the Anti-Infiltration Act, Banking Act, and the Criminal Code. On Thursday, they said she also provided false information to allow a Chinese official to hide his true identity and enter Taiwan supposedly for business purposes, per CNA.
Even though she knew Sun Xian was the deputy head of the Shanghai branch of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, she used a friend’s company to invite him to Taiwan.
Xu asked a travel agency to report to the government that Sun had never served in any party, government, political, or military function, prosecutors said. In addition, she drew up a false daily itinerary for his stay in Taiwan, allowing him to obtain an entry permit from the National Immigration Agency.
Sun visited Taiwan Oct. 14-24 last year, and met KMT Vice Chair Chi Lin-lien (季麟連), retired military officers, businesspeople, TPP officials, and Shi Xueyan, a Chinese spouse who lost her seat on Nantou County Council after she failed to prove she had renounced her Chinese nationality.
