TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Core Pacific Group Chair Sheen Ching-jing (沈慶京) was filmed dancing with a woman on Feb. 13, despite having appeared in a wheelchair during court proceedings in the Core Pacific graft case.
Prosecutors have indicted Sheen on allegations he bribed former TPP Chair Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) to secure a more favorable floor area ratio for a Core Pacific development project, per FTV. During court appearances, Sheen used a wheelchair, saying his health had deteriorated during detention.
Footage obtained by FTV showed Sheen entering a restaurant with a woman and dancing. The report noted that while he was wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet, it did not appear to limit him.
In a Facebook post, Sheen said dancing was part of his recovery workout, per Liberty Times. He noted that limited space and a worsening physical condition affected his ability to walk.
Sheen said that during a recent visit to Guanyin Mountain, he needed to stop three times while climbing a 100-meter staircase. He added he might have needed to stop five times had he not been dancing.
Sheen also suggested the footage was deliberately released a day before a key court decision in the case. He alleged that the move was part of an attempt to undermine him and gain control of his companies.
