TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipower said Tuesday that Taiwan’s power supply remains stable despite tensions in the Middle East.
The state-run utility said the Ministry of Economic Affairs has activated an energy emergency response team to monitor developments, per CNA. The company is strengthening plant maintenance and optimizing hydropower dispatch to ensure a stable electricity supply.
Taipower said it is working with CPC Corp. to track global and domestic energy conditions. Fuel reserves for power generation remain at safe levels and are sufficient to handle short-term fluctuations.
The company expects peak electricity demand this year to reach 42.94 million kW during the day and 38.53 million kW at night, per Anue. New renewable capacity and four generating units totaling 5.2 million kW are set to come online.
Together with pumped-storage hydropower, energy storage systems, and demand-side measures, reserve margins are expected to stay above 10% during daytime peaks and above 7% at night. These levels are considered sufficient to meet demand from households and industry.
Taipower said emergency backup power facilities are also ready for deployment. It said it will prioritize high-efficiency, low-carbon generation and expand smart grid systems to enhance stability.
