TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Seven Tigerair Taiwan round-trip flights were delayed after one flight was barred from departing Japan’s Fukuoka Airport because it missed the Monday evening curfew.
Flight IT720 from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport was unable to land in Fukuoka on Monday afternoon because of unstable weather conditions, but landed at Kansai International Airport near Osaka instead to refuel before heading to Fukuoka, Liberty Times reported.
The aircraft had originally been scheduled to leave Fukuoka for Taoyuan as flight IT721 at 5:55 p.m. After repeated delays, passengers were allowed to board shortly before 10 p.m., but the flight was denied takeoff permission after the airport’s daily curfew began.
Tigerair Taiwan said it would compensate passengers for extra lodging and food expenses while apologizing for the inconvenience. The incident also caused delays to seven round-trip flights scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
The affected flights were IT206 and IT207 between Taoyuan and Nagoya, IT212 and IT213 between Taoyuan and Kansai, IT232 and IT233 between Taoyuan and Naha, Okinawa, IT752 and IT753 between Taoyuan and Fukushima, IT214 and IT215 between Taoyuan and Okayama, and IT503 and IT504 between Taoyuan and Phuket. Tuesday’s IT602 flight from Taoyuan to Incheon International Airport in South Korea and Wednesday’s return flight, IT603, were also delayed.
The budget airline, owned by China Airlines, said it was sending emails to passengers on flights facing delays of more than one hour.
