TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Panamanian-flagged cruise ship Amadea docked at Magong Port on Tuesday, completing its maiden voyage to Penghu and bringing more than 500 tourists from Europe and the US.
The 29,000-tonne vessel’s arrival marks a milestone for Penghu’s tourism sector as local authorities seek to expand international cruise traffic. Officials said five cruise ships, making seven voyages in total, are expected to visit the port this year, per CNA.
Amadea departed from Keelung Port and arrived at Magong Port at 11 a.m., where it was welcomed by tugboats spraying water cannons before berthing at Pier 1.
Penghu County Tourism Department Director Chen Mei-ling (陳美齡) led a delegation aboard the ship and presented commemorative gifts to mark the occasion. Officials said the vessel began its voyage in Naha, Japan, on March 21.

After arriving at Magong Port, passengers were allowed to disembark and explore northern Penghu’s tourist attractions through self-guided tours. The ship was scheduled to depart for Hong Kong at 8 p.m.
The Penghu Port Authority said additional cruise visits this year will include two voyages each by Caledonian Cruises and Star Cruises, as the county continues efforts to boost its profile as an international cruise destination.
