TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Penghu International Fireworks Festival will kick off on May 4 in partnership with the classic Japanese anime “Dragon Ball Z.”
Penghu County Deputy Magistrate Lin Jie-shin (林皆興) said the festival, now in its 24th year, will run from May 4 to Aug. 25 with 33 shows across the county per CNA. For the first time, the festival is teaming up with “Dragon Ball Z,” combining high-level pyrotechnics with drone light displays that incorporate elements from the anime.
The Penghu County Tourism Department said the event will include four large “Dragon Ball Z” installations, creating a themed park and photo-op area. Limited-time merchandise pop-ups and stamp-collecting activities will link the festival to tourist spots, providing a diverse visitor experience.
During the festival, 700 drones will perform coordinated shows, while fireworks teams from Japan, Malaysia, Argentina, Italy, Malta, and Finland deliver a world-class spectacle. From May 4 to June 25, shows will be held every Monday and Thursday, and from June 30 to Aug. 25, every Tuesday.
Additional performances are planned for Jibei, Wang-an, and Qimei islands, with exclusive shows in Huxi, Baisha, and Xiyu townships. Trial fireworks displays are scheduled for April 20 and 27.
