TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Chunghwa Post will open a logistics park in Taoyuan’s Guishan District in May, which will combine AI with automated warehousing and automated mail and package handling, CNA reported.
The company said the facility, near the Taoyuan Airport MRT A7 station, is also expected to improve its e-commerce processing efficiency. It will integrate customs clearance, quarantine, and financial services to speed up logistics in northern Taiwan.
At its 130th anniversary celebration on Friday, Company Chair Wang Kuo-tsai (王國材) said Chunghwa Post faced challenges last year from US tariffs and appreciation of the Taiwan dollar, which affected its financial business. He thanked employees for their efforts, which helped the company post an after-tax net profit of NT$10.15 billion (US$338 million).
Wang hopes this year’s profit will exceed last year’s, adding that employees meeting performance standards could receive a bonus of up to 4.4 months’ salary.
Wang said the company’s mail delivery has declined by about 40 million items annually. To address this, it is shifting its focus to strengthen parcel delivery services, including faster delivery, home pickup, and partnerships with convenience stores for package services.
Over the past five years, 4,919 employees have retired from the company. To address the workforce gap, it plans to hold two recruitment drives annually and reassign some mail delivery staff to bolster its parcel operations.
In November, Chunghwa Post will hold the World Stamp Exhibition in Taipei. The event is expected to feature around 100 booths from 90 countries, showcasing 2,000 sets of rare or historic stamps. It will also include a section with immersive and interactive technologies that highlight postal service development.
Wang added that the company will enhance its online insurance services, including automated claims processing, image recognition, and AI-powered check systems. It will also streamline online insurance enrollment to boost its insurance business.
