TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taichung City Government said Thursday it has launched a 555 Airport Express bus line, as Taichung International Airport’s number of international routes increases to 26.
The city government said the bus service connects the airport with key downtown stops, including Wenhua Senior High School MRT Station, Taichung City Hall Station, and shopping areas. The trip between the airport and the city center takes about 30 minutes.
Taichung’s Tourism and Travel Bureau reported that five new routes have opened since the start of this year, serving Miyakojima, Tokyo, Kumamoto, Chiang Mai, and Da Lat. A regular route to Busan will also begin on March 30, bringing the total number of international routes to 26, per Liberty Times.
The city said the expanded network now covers destinations in Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Macau, and other parts of Southeast Asia. According to Civil Aviation Administration data, more than 1.71 million passengers traveled through Taichung International Airport last year.
Officials said the 555 Airport Express buses offer audio guidance in seven languages and luggage storage space for travelers. The bureau said the bus interiors feature hand-painted watercolor designs of Taichung landmarks in day and night scenes, per Commercial Times.
