TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) met US technology firms to expand cooperation in artificial intelligence and semiconductors during his visit to the US, CNA reported Thursday.
UDN reported that Chen led a city delegation to Silicon Valley and went to Google, AT&T, and Stanford University’s Hoover Institution. The visit aims to explore potential partnerships and raise Kaohsiung’s international profile.
Chen said the trip helped facilitate a trilateral agreement between Japan’s Kumamoto Prefecture and the US state of Arizona to promote economic exchanges. He described the initiative as part of a “semiconductor strategic triangle,” per Commercial Times.
In meetings with Google’s AI team, Chen said Kaohsiung is promoting “sovereign AI” to improve smart transportation and public governance. The city is considering cooperation with Google’s Green Light project to optimize traffic signals and reduce emissions, per Liberty Times.
Google’s Green Light is an AI-based project that uses traffic data to improve the timing of traffic signals. It aims to reduce congestion, shorten waiting times, and lower vehicle emissions at busy intersections.
