TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Households with at least one child under the age of 12 will soon be eligible to apply to hire a migrant domestic helper.
Minister without Portfolio Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) on Wednesday said the previous requirement, that families must have three children under age 6 to qualify, was widely seen as too restrictive, per CNA. The Cabinet has approved a relaxation of the rules enabling families with only one child under 12 to be eligible.
However, applicants must pay a monthly employment stabilization fee of NT$5,000 (US$157). Applications will open on April 13.
Chen added that additional relaxed criteria for special or disadvantaged families include broader eligibility conditions as well as a reduced monthly fee of NT$2,000. These include households with one child under 12 who has a rare disease, a disability, or special circumstances, or a child under 6 with developmental delays.
Other eligible cases include families with one child under 12 and a single parent or a parent with a disability. Households with two children under 12, including at least one under 6, or three children under 12 will also qualify.
