TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A sinkhole on Minquan Road in New Taipei’s Tamsui District on Tuesday afternoon prompted emergency repairs and traffic control measures.
CNA reported that the incident occurred at around 3 p.m. in the inner lane of Minquan Road heading toward Tamsui, near the central median. Traffic controls were implemented to guide vehicles away from the affected area.
Authorities said the sinkhole measured about 2 meters in length, 1.5 meters in width, and 1 meter in depth. No injuries or property damage were reported at the time of the incident, per Economic Daily News.
New Taipei Public Works Department said initial inspections found the soil inside the hole was dry, with no signs of leaking pipelines or water erosion. The cause of the sinkhole is being investigated, per UDN.
Repair crews began emergency work by filling the sinkhole with concrete and placed steel plates over the surface to allow the temporary reopening of the road. Normal traffic was restored by around 8 p.m.
