TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Air Force said Tuesday that the black box from a missing F-16V fighter jet has been recovered.
Captain Hsin Po-yi (辛柏毅) of the Air Force’s 5th Tactical Fighter Wing went missing on Jan. 6 while conducting a nighttime training mission in an F-16V (Block 20) fighter jet, per CNA. Air Force Headquarters said it had commissioned Seagreen Enterprise Co. to conduct salvage operations in the area where the signal from the device had been detected.
After several days of underwater exploration, the black box was found on Monday in the area where the signal had been located. The Air Force confirmed it belonged to the crashed F-16V, and it was salvaged and transported back to port.
The Air Force expressed sincere gratitude to the public for their concern over the case and support for the pilot’s family. It added that the black box will be sent to the aircraft’s manufacturer in the US for analysis to determine the cause of the accident.
