TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Education’s K–12 Education Administration has promoted a remote English teaching program since 2019 to ensure every child has equal access to English learning regardless of geographic location.
Qualified English teachers are selected to provide online instruction, helping students in remote areas learn English, according to an education ministry press release.
The program integrates the “Cool English” online learning platform and digital teaching resources to help schools implement the national English curriculum and gradually reduce the urban-rural learning gap, per the ministry. In the 2025 academic year, the program included 14 schools, 259 students, and 13 remote teaching teachers.
At Shannei Elementary School in Yunlin County, a system covering lesson preparation, instruction, and assessment has been established. Teachers use AI digital tools combined with gamification and positive feedback to enhance student engagement and motivation.
They also incorporate localized, multimodal materials and emotional support, connecting English learning with students’ daily lives. At Jiangjun Junior High School in Penghu County, remote teaching is tailored to students’ different learning paces and needs.
Teachers use AI to transform texts into comic-style visual materials. Lessons also include real-life examples and AI-generated situational videos for listening practice.
The school also uses real-time AI interaction and feedback to monitor student progress. The K–12 Education Administration said that as the program enters its sixth year, students have shown greater engagement and interest in learning.
The program will continue to be expanded to provide stable, high-quality English teaching resources and learning environments for schools in remote areas, the administration said. Taiwan seeks to become a bilingual nation by 2030 through better English education.
