TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Two Taoyuan firefighters traveling in Japan helped a passenger who suddenly lost consciousness at Tokyo’s Kanda Station on Thursday evening, CNA reported.
The Taoyuan City Fire Department said Longtan Fire Station firefighters Chang Yung-wei (張詠惟) and Yang Yu-hsiu (楊昱修) were on vacation when they saw the person collapse inside a train car. They immediately checked the person’s breathing, pulse, and level of consciousness.
The firefighters confirmed the passenger was still breathing and provided initial care while monitoring the condition. The person gradually stabilized before local station staff and emergency responders arrived, Hakka News reported.
Chang also used his Japanese language skills to communicate with the patient and calm the situation. He later explained the person’s condition to station staff and rescue personnel so the medical response could continue smoothly, per Yahoo News.
“Both firefighters have strong rescue experience and perform well in their duties,” Longtan Fire Station Chief Chuang I-nung (莊易濃) said. He said their quick response abroad showed the professionalism and willingness of Taiwan firefighters to help others.
