TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) on Friday nominated Hsu Hsi-hsiang (徐錫祥), current head prosecutor at the Supreme Prosecutors Office, to serve as the nation's next prosecutor-general.
Storm Media said Lai is submitting the nomination to the Legislative Yuan for approval. The move comes ahead of incumbent Hsing Tai-chao's (邢泰釗) term ending on May 7.
Presidential Office Spokesperson Karen Kuo (郭雅慧) reportedly highlighted Hsu's extensive experience in handling drug trafficking, economic crimes, and election investigations.
CNA said Hsu, 63, holds a master's degree in law from National Chung Hsing University. He previously led district prosecutors offices in Kinmen, Hsinchu, Changhua, and New Taipei, and served as deputy justice minister.
The nomination follows the Courts Organization Act and awaits legislative consent. Kuo hoped lawmakers would support the pick to ensure a smooth leadership transition at Taiwan's highest prosecutorial agency.
