TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – KMT Chair Cheng Li-wun (鄭麗文) and TPP Chair Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) on Saturday presented their joint ideas for the local election campaign.
The two opposition parties have said they wanted to cooperate as much as possible in the campaign for the Nov. 28 elections, but have so far not unveiled any joint candidates. In the New Taipei district of Xinzhuang Saturday, Cheng and Huang presented policies they had in common, per CNA.
The cooperation project targets election campaigns in New Taipei, Hsinchu City, Yilan, and Chiayi City. Cheng said the regional elections are a stepping stone to prepare for a change of power at the national level in presidential and legislative elections expected for January 2028.
The joint program focuses on social welfare, housing justice, a sustainable environment, and AI. Huang said the intention is to encourage the government to take action and move Taiwan toward a better direction.
The declining birth rate, aging population, and the expansion of social housing are priorities in the program, according to the TPP chair. Meanwhile, Cheng accused the government of implementing mistaken energy policies instead of emphasizing a stable energy supply in support of economic competitiveness. She advocated the creation of a “zero-carbon homeland” in contrast with the DPP’s “nuclear-free homeland.”
The KMT chair said county and city governments should assist small and medium enterprises with their digital transition. Universities and the education system should also work more closely with business and government to nurture AI excellence, like Singapore, according to Cheng.
