TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Touch Taiwan Expo will showcase the latest display panels, materials, electronic equipment, and optical communication technologies, with a growing focus on using silicon photonics to transmit signals.
The three-day event will run through April 10 at Taipei’s Nangang Exhibition Center. This year’s expo will feature smart displays, smart manufacturing, and key equipment and materials used in semiconductor manufacturing processes.
According to the Taiwan Display Union Association, which will organize the event, this year’s expo will feature dedicated zones showcasing silicon photonics and co-packaged optics technologies. These technologies are crucial for high-volume data transmission and exchange in AI data centers, per CNA.
Silicon photonics integrates optical components onto a chip, allowing signals to be transmitted as light instead of electricity, which enables faster speeds and higher bandwidth. Co-packaged optics place the main chip and the switch chip on the same board, shortening data paths and cutting power use.
The association noted the display sector’s expertise in large-panel substrate processing, optical materials, and precision manufacturing provides opportunities for integrating silicon photonics and co-packaged optics technologies.
The organizer will also hold forums to discuss the potential development of silicon photonics and its industrial applications. Speakers will include representatives from semiconductor and optical technology companies such as AMD, ASE Technology, and Ennostar.
Ennostar is transforming from an LED supplier to a provider of light sources for co-packaged optics technology. The company is also Taiwan’s leading firm in Micro LED tech, which has been applied in automotive displays, wearable devices, and large-screen displays.
In addition to semiconductor and optical technologies, Iris Optronics will showcase its electronic paper technology and LCD displays at the event. The company said its electronic paper can maintain images with low power consumption and deliver high color brightness in natural light.
