TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan, the US, and Eswatini co-sponsored a seminar to promote digital entrepreneurship among youths and small businesses in Taiwan’s only African ally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Friday.
The March 11-12 event in Ezulwini was held as part of the Global Cooperation and Training Framework, the ministry said in a statement. The aim is to boost Eswatini’s economic resilience by assisting the digital transformation of the country’s micro-, small-, and medium-sized businesses.
Taiwan Ambassador Jeremy Liang (梁洪昇), US Head of Mission Marc Weinstock, and Eswatini Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Trade Manqoba Khumalo spoke at the opening of the event. Minister of Information, Communication, and Technology Savannah Maziya delivered the closing address.
Liang emphasized Taiwan’s role as a “technology island” using its talent for digital innovation to contribute to the global community. Taiwan has been assisting Eswatini in upgrading its basic digital infrastructure and boosting its technology applications to reduce high youth unemployment, he said.
Taiwan wanted to help its African ally develop into a digitalized nation, according to Liang. International Integrated Systems Inc., iKala Interactive Media Inc., and influencer EC Wife (電商人妻) represented Taiwan at the forum, sharing practical examples of digital innovation and marketing in their country.
