TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taichung City Government held a sustainable green economy forum on Thursday to discuss strategies for net-zero transition and climate governance.
The city government said the event gathered representatives from government, industry and academia at Taichung City Hall. It examined Taiwan’s opportunities and strategies in the global transition to net zero.
Taichung Agriculture Bureau Director Li Yi-an (李逸安) said countries are tightening rules on carbon markets, climate finance and information disclosure as global climate negotiations move toward the COP30 summit under the Paris Agreement. Li said local governments and industries must prepare early to adapt to the evolving global climate framework.
COP30 refers to the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations climate convention, held in Brazil last year. The summit focused on strengthening national climate commitments, expanding carbon markets and accelerating global net-zero transition efforts.
ETtoday reported discussions focused on five themes: global carbon market trends, sustainable finance, corporate net-zero practices, local industry transformation and green campus talent training. Experts shared policy analysis and practical experience on carbon management, supply chain upgrades, low-carbon manufacturing and talent cultivation.
City officials said the discussions demonstrate Taichung’s commitment to aligning with international net-zero trends and strengthening sustainable governance. The city government plans to continue promoting related policies and cooperation platforms to build a resilient, low-carbon and sustainable city.
