TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The International Trade Administration said it has helped Taiwanese hand tool and fastener companies secure NT$3.8 billion (US$120 million) in business at the International Hardware Fair Cologne in Germany.
The biennial event, held March 3–6, showcased the latest tools, locks, and industrial fasteners. This year's expo attracted nearly 2,500 exhibitors from more than 50 countries, per CNA.
The administration partnered with the Taiwan External Trade Development Council to set up the Team Taiwan pavilion. Taiwan was the second-largest participating country at the expo, with 263 companies joining.
In response to the global supply chain reshuffle and US tariff policies, the administration said the government has helped companies diversify into overseas markets and supported domestic businesses in participating in international exhibitions.
The administration said it will hold buyer events in Taiwan to further boost sales. It has also used AI-powered systems to help companies develop marketing strategies based on their strengths.
During the event, the administration held product launches, an industry forum, and a “Taiwan Night” event. Buyers from Europe, North America, and the Middle East inquired about products at the pavilion, showing strong interest in Taiwan-made tools and fasteners, the administration added.
According to Taichung City Government, more than 200 participating companies were from Taichung. The city’s hand tool sector has a complete supply chain, with products including precision tools, cutting tools, hardware components, and storage systems.
Around 70% of domestic hardware makers are based in Taichung. Many have shifted from contract manufacturing to design and customized production, with several launching their own brands.
The city government added that Taiwan is a major global exporter of hand tools, with an annual output value of NT$100 billion (US$3.2 billion) and about 50,000 workers.
