TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Civil Aviation Administration Director-General Ho Shu-ping (何淑萍) said on Wednesday that Kaohsiung International Airport may begin a pilot program in the summer that allows “diversified taxis” (多元計程車) to pick up passengers.
Under the Regulations Governing Passenger Vehicle Services at Civil Aviation Airports, dispatched taxis must hold a special registration certificate and are prohibited from illegally soliciting passengers, per CNA.
Ho said the CAA has proposed amendments to these regulations and submitted the draft to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. A public notice will be issued soon to announce the start of the pilot program.
The notice period will be 30 days, followed by legal procedures. The pilot program could begin as early as June, with a designated waiting area planned for diversified taxis.
Ho explained that the airport was selected for the pilot program because many passengers traveling to nearby counties and cities wanted diversified taxis. Several briefing sessions have already been held on the issue, she said.
