TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — It is vital for Taiwanese to remain united to safeguard national interests and ensure that policies necessary for economic growth are put in place quickly so the nation can continue to develop amid global challenges, Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) said Tuesday.
The Cabinet has already taken proactive measures to stabilize prices, secure energy supplies, and assess key resources, Hsiao said, according to the Presidential Office. It is also promoting “de-risking” measures to maintain price stability while ensuring that the energy needed for economic development remains secure, she said.
On US tariffs, the vice president said the past year has been difficult for many businesses, but the Cabinet’s negotiation team is working hard to secure the best possible treatment for Taiwan. This includes obtaining most-favored-nation treatment for certain items under Section 232 measures and achieving favorable arrangements regarding reciprocal tariffs.
Following rulings by the Supreme Court, Taiwan will continue communicating with the US to ensure that the outcomes of past trade negotiations can be implemented.
The vice president added that the government will continue to monitor international developments and cooperate with global partners. Hsiao emphasized that Taiwan is a country with high resilience and is capable of responding to a constantly changing world.
The government will continue improving institutions and work with all sectors of society to build a more competitive and resilient Taiwan, she added.
