TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — New Taipei City Government said the Wan Jin Shi Marathon is expected to draw about 13,000 participants from 36 countries, with some road sections around the race area set for temporary restrictions.
The event, recognized by World Athletics, will be held on Sunday, with the route passing through sections of Wanli, Jinshan, and Shimen Districts. Starting at Wanli’s Green Bay, the race features a full marathon of about 42 km and a 10-km run per CNA.
The race route will showcase mountain and sea scenery, with some sections exposed to strong winds. Continuous uphill stretches between kilometers 33 and 37 will test runners’ endurance.
New Taipei City Police Department said traffic restrictions will be in effect on the race route and nearby roads starting Sunday at 2 a.m. Vehicles will be barred from entering the course from 6 a.m., with restrictions set to be lifted beginning at 10:30 a.m. The city government added some bus routes and stops along the race course, which will be changed due to the marathon.
Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) said organizers will provide guide runners for visually impaired participants in this year’s race. The guides will be connected to the runners by a 30–45 cm tether to help control pace, communicate course conditions and provide directional guidance.
The organizers have also reserved 500 spots in the 10-km category specifically for female participants. The city government said these initiatives aim to encourage more people to participate in running events.
The city’s Sports Department added that this year’s event will feature five types of race shirts, inspired by the natural scenery of the North Coast. The shirts are made from moisture-wicking, quick-dry, and odor-resistant materials.
Participants who complete the race this year will receive black or silver medals featuring an image of the Queen’s Head at Yehliu Geopark.
