TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of National Defense tracked six Chinese naval vessels around Taiwan between 6 a.m. on Tuesday and the same time Wednesday.
It also noted that China announced the launch of a carrier rocket from Xichang Satellite Launch Center that passed through Taiwan’s Air Defense Identification Zone, or ADIZ. A carrier rocket, also known as a launch vehicle, is primarily designed to transport payloads like satellites or spacecraft into space.
In response, Taiwan deployed aircraft, naval ships, and coastal-based missile systems to monitor People’s Liberation Army activity.
So far this month, the defense ministry has tracked Chinese military aircraft two times and ships 67 times. Since September 2020, Beijing has increased its use of "gray zone tactics" by operating military aircraft and naval ships around Taiwan.
Gray zone tactics are defined as “an effort or series of efforts beyond steady-state deterrence and assurance that attempts to achieve one’s security objectives without resort to direct and sizable use of force.”
