TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s representative office in Israel assisted two Taiwanese in leaving the country on Sunday, as regional tensions continue to escalate.
Israel recently resumed limited departures for commercial aircraft, allowing the travelers to leave from Ben Gurion Airport and connect onward to Taiwan via Prague, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, per CNA.
Taiwan’s envoy to Israel, Lee Ya-ping (李雅萍), went to the airport to meet the travelers and help coordinate their departure alongside staff from the representative office.
Flight operations remain restricted despite the reopening of Israel’s airspace. Authorities currently permit only two narrow-body aircraft movements per hour, and airlines are limited to carrying about half the number of passengers their planes can normally hold, per the report.
Officials said the diplomatic office will keep monitoring airline rules and seat availability so Taiwanese who wish to leave can secure flights when possible.
The foreign ministry also warned that security conditions across parts of the Middle East remain volatile as fighting continues in the region. Travel alerts for several countries have been raised.
People who still need to travel through the region were urged to stay alert to possible airport disruptions and to register their trips through Taiwan’s overseas travel registration system so authorities can assist in the event that trouble arises.
