TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) welcomed Guam Gov. Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero to Taiwan during a banquet on Monday.
Guerrero arrived last Wednesday for bilateral talks and will depart on Wednesday. Lin said Taiwan and Guam are democratic partners “committed to safeguarding regional peace and stability,” according to the foreign ministry.
In recent years, cooperation between Taiwan and Guam in tourism, education, and agriculture has grown, while people-to-people exchanges have become more frequent, he said.
The foreign minister said Taiwan will continue to cooperate with Guam in AI-powered agriculture, medical services, education, and culture to promote economic prosperity and improve the well-being of both peoples.
Guerrero said her delegation established sister-city relations with Kaohsiung City, expressing hope that city diplomacy would strengthen bilateral ties. She said Guam is working to expand medical cooperation with Taiwan to improve the island’s healthcare quality.
The governor said she looked forward to building deeper connections in Indigenous culture, economic cooperation, and tourism. The foreign ministry said it is eager to bolster mutually beneficial partnerships in tourism, healthcare, culture, and other areas.
