TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Two Taiwanese legislators attended the Raisina Dialogue in India from May 5-7 to encourage more bilateral exchanges and Taiwanese investment in the country.
DPP lawmaker Chung Chia-pin (鍾佳濱) and the KMT’s Lin Chieh-chi (林倩綺) attended the event with a delegation of experts from Taiwan. The lawmakers hope to strengthen ties between Taiwan and India to stabilize global supply chains and safeguard Taiwan’s critical technology industries, reported CNA.
During the trip, Chung said that India’s government has high hopes for investment and cooperation. Likewise, Taiwanese companies recognize the vast economic potential India represents, but he added that India remains unfamiliar to many Taiwanese.
Chung hoped that India would provide more guarantees for Taiwanese firms interested in investment. In an interview with local media, Chung said India is an important player for regional stability.
When asked about tensions with China, Chung told local media outlet ANI that “Taiwan is like India.”
Lin Chiah-chi (林倩綺) said Taiwan is recognized as an indispensable partner in the global tech supply chain. She said there have been positive developments in trade and investment in recent years, and the Indian government can build on this foundation to attract even more Taiwanese companies, per CNA.
