TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) signed a double taxation and tax evasion agreement during his visit to Tuvalu Wednesday.
Lin arrived in Taiwan’s Pacific ally on Wednesday as a special envoy for President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), who visited the country in December 2024. The foreign minister posted about the first day of his visit on his Facebook page.
He signed an accord about double taxation and tax evasion with Prime Minister Feleti Teo. In addition, the two sides attended a ceremony marking the use of the Vaka Cable, an undersea cable launched last year to improve Tuvalu’s internet connections with the outside world.
The project was the result of cooperation between Taiwan, the US, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Lin said Taiwan is also paying for the cost of the first year of operations and maintenance for the cable.
On his third visit to Tuvalu, Lin thanked the Pacific nation for its support at international events, including the World Health Assembly and the UN General Assembly.
