TAINAN (Taiwan News) — Tainan City Government on Thursday held outdoor live broadcasts of the 2026 World Baseball Classic opener between Taiwan and Australia so fans could cheer for Team Taiwan.
The city organized watch parties at Yonghua Municipal Center west plaza and Nanying Green City Park in Xinying District, per the city government. Large outdoor screens enabled residents who could not travel to Tokyo Dome to watch the game together.
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) attended the event and joined fans in cheering for Taiwan. He also handed out snacks and bottled water to supporters at the viewing site, Yahoo News reported.
The city's Sports Bureau said the matches were shown in high-definition and accompanied by live band performances of cheering songs. The bureau added that interactive activities and prizes were also arranged to create a lively atmosphere.
Officials said Taiwan will face Japan, the Czech Republic, and South Korea during the group stage from Friday to Sunday. The city government encouraged families and baseball fans to attend the public screenings and support Taiwan’s national team.

- Thursday, 11 a.m. — Taiwan vs. Australia
- Friday, 6 p.m. — Japan vs. Taiwan
- Saturday, 11 a.m. — Taiwan vs. Czech Republic
- Sunday, 11 a.m. — Taiwan vs. South Korea
