TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taichung’s Daya District will host its annual Wheat Industry Cultural Festival on Saturday with golden wheat fields and circus-themed displays.
Taichung City Government said this year’s event is themed “Wheat Circus” and will transform farmland into a festive space with colorful flags, artistic installations, and performances.
“Daya has the largest wheat field landscape area in Taiwan and plants about 100 hectares of wheat each year,” the Daya District Farmers’ Association said. Liberty Times reported that the festival has been held annually since 2004 and attracts tens of thousands of visitors who come to photograph the golden wheat fields.
The festival, as CNA reported, will also include an agricultural products fair and a ceremony honoring model farmers and outstanding agricultural workers. Local farmers and agricultural associations will sell fresh produce and processed farm goods during the event.
Chen Mei-hsiu (陳美秀), director of Taichung’s Tourism and Travel Bureau, said spring is an ideal season for travel and invited visitors to explore Daya while viewing the wheat fields. She also recommended cycling along the 13.6-kilometer Tanya Shen Green Bikeway, which connects Tanzi, Fengyuan, Shengang, and Daya districts.
The bureau said improvements are being made to the bikeway to enhance safety and nighttime visibility. Nearby attractions such as Daya’s Central Taiwan Science Park Park, Hengshan Park, and Yatan Night Market also offer family recreation and local food options.
