TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Travelers will be able to bring bicycles into all 22 Airport MRT stations starting March 10 after Taoyuan Metro lifted previous restrictions at three airport-area stops.
Taoyuan Metro Corp. said Tuesday bicycles had previously been permitted at most Airport MRT stations except A12 Airport Terminal 1, A13 Airport Terminal 2 and A14a Airport Hotel, per CNA. After the new policy takes effect, cyclists will be able to transfer between stations more conveniently.
Previously, passengers were required to fold or disassemble and properly pack their bicycles before carrying them by hand or over the shoulder. They were not allowed to push them inside the terminals.
Under the new rules, travelers departing Taiwan may walk their bicycles directly to the airport terminal stations before checking them as oversized baggage. Arriving passengers can assemble their bicycles on site after collecting them from the oversized baggage area and then wheel them through the airport and onto the Airport MRT.
The company reminded passengers that those bringing bicycles must purchase a bicycle ticket at station service counters. Cyclists may not use escalators inside stations and must walk their bicycles through stations.
Bicycles are only permitted on commuter trains. Bikes must enter, exit and be parked at the designated doors in the first and fourth cars.

On weekdays, bicycles are permitted during two time slots: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and 10 p.m. until the end of service. On weekends and holidays, bicycles are permitted all day.
The fare is based on a combined passenger and bicycle fare system, consisting of the regular distance-based fare plus a fixed NT$50 (US$1.50) surcharge. This ticket already offers a discounted rate and cannot be combined with other concession fares or discounts.
Foldable bicycles, or those disassembled and properly packed in accordance with size regulations, may be brought on board free of charge as regular luggage.
Updated riding information and guidelines will be available on the website starting March 10.
