TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Army’s 58th Artillery Command recently conducted a training course for its UAV battalion.
Senior personnel certified by the Army Drone Training Center led the session, Military News Agency reported. Troops first conducted basic flight operations using visual observation and practiced core control skills such as throttle management, attitude adjustment, and directional correction.
They then wore first-person-view goggles to perform obstacle drills, including flying through square windows, corner windows, and wall openings. The exercises strengthened spatial awareness and precision control, per MNA. Instructors simultaneously monitored live flight feeds, providing real-time guidance and corrections to improve training safety and effectiveness.
The 58th Artillery Command said immersive training helps troops develop real-time judgment and tactical response capabilities in realistic environments. It also improves low-altitude infiltration and reconnaissance in complex terrain.
The command said it will continue refining training in line with operational requirements and cultivate UAV operators with professional expertise and battlefield adaptability.
Last week, the drone training center held its first on-site drone licensing examination, streamlining the certification process. In the past, military drone operators seeking civilian drone licenses had to travel to CAA-approved testing locations after completing training at the center.
