TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Legislator Chen Yu-jen (陳玉珍) was the only person to register to run for the KMT in the year-end race for Kinmen County magistrate, reports said Tuesday.
As a result, there will be no primary, but the opposition party will name Chen on Wednesday as its candidate in the Nov. 28 election, per CNA. Registration had been open Feb. 25–27, but nobody else had picked up and submitted the forms, according to the local KMT branch office.
In her campaign platform, Chen emphasized long-term care and smart cities as ways to boost Kinmen’s international competitiveness. She also said cross-strait peace would start from the island of 144,000, describing it as a key link between China and Taiwan.
Chen has faced criticism in the past for advocating economic integration with China and for issuing a proposal she later retracted that would have allowed lawmakers to control stipends for their aides. She has represented Kinmen at the Legislative Yuan since 2016.
