TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taichung-based China Medical University Hospital has treated more than 1,300 patients from Guam over the past decade, CNA reported Monday.
The hospital has provided continuous medical services to Guam residents since 2016, serving more than 1,300 patients as of the end of 2025. It added that even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the hospital donated 200,000 medical masks and arranged humanitarian medical charter flights between Taiwan and Guam.
The hospital held an event in Guam on Thursday titled “Ten Years of Trust,” bringing together former and current patients as well as local lawmakers. The hospital said its international medical center sent senior specialists in urology and orthopedics to attend the gathering, per Yahoo News.
The hospital said direct flights between Taiwan and Guam resumed in 2025, making it easier for residents to travel for treatment. It added that it works with Guam insurance companies and offers a one-stop service to streamline medical procedures.
“Medical care should not be limited by borders, and over the past 10 years we have built a long-term international cooperation model,” China Medical University Hospital Superintendent Chou Teh-yang (周德陽) said. He added that when Guam patients choose Taiwan, they are choosing a system built on trust and quality.
Guam is a US territory, and Taiwan does not maintain formal diplomatic ties with it because Washington recognizes the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal government representing China. However, Taiwan and Guam maintain close economic, tourism, medical, and educational exchanges through Taipei’s representative office in the US and local partnerships.
