TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Footage released by US Central Command on Sunday of an M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System firing an Army Tactical Missile System demonstrates that its effectiveness in precision strikes is battle-tested, Liberty Times reported.
In addition to air strikes in Iran, the US military deployed HIMARS to attack land targets.
Liberty Times said the Army Tactical Missile System has a range of up to about 300 kilometers, and the rocket system can quickly relocate after firing, reducing the risk of counterattacks. Its high mobility and long-range capabilities enable ground forces to project firepower across regions.
Taiwan has purchased 29 HIMARS systems. A first batch of 11 has arrived, and all are deployed. The military decided to procure 18 additional systems in 2025, with deliveries expected to begin in December.
The military has purchased Army Tactical Missile Systems and Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems to strengthen long-range, precision strike capabilities. Both munitions are compatible with HIMARS.
The Army plans to conduct a live-fire exercise to verify unit performance and combat capabilities as new weapon systems, including HIMARS, are fielded. The exercise is expected to take place after this year’s Han Kuang exercises. Army Commander Lu Kun-hsiu (呂坤修) said last month that the drill aims to ensure commanders at all levels understand training priorities.
