TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — US Senior Official for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Casey Mace arrived in Taiwan on Monday for a two-day trip, according to the American Institute in Taiwan.
Mace will engage with top Taiwanese officials and industry leaders on APEC issues and US–Taiwan economic cooperation, AIT said. He will also express US support for Taiwan’s “meaningful participation in the international community, with a focus on supply chain resilience, AI, and the digital economy.”
Mace represents the US in APEC and is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. He also oversees the Office of Economic Policy in the State Department’s Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, per AIT. He previously served as charge d'affaires and deputy chief of mission at the US Embassy in Singapore from 2022–2025.
Last year, a State Department spokesperson said the US insisted on the full and equal participation of all APEC member economies, including Taiwan, in line with APEC guidelines, rules, and established practices.
Taiwan’s APEC representative, Lin Hsin-i (林信義), said in November that the annual global economic meeting gives Taiwan an important stage to raise its global visibility. It also allows Taiwan to highlight its contributions to the international economic system.
National Science and Technology Council Minister Wu Cheng-wen (吳誠文) discussed AI with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in South Korea. Lin also briefly met with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
