TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday upgraded the travel advisories for six Middle Eastern countries due to the escalating conflict in the region.
The ministry announced that the alert levels for Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar have been elevated from yellow to orange, per CNA. It is warning citizens to avoid nonessential travel to those countries.
Meanwhile, travel alerts for Iran, Iraq, Israel, the Israel-Lebanon border region, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, and the Syria-Iraq border, Syria, and Yemen remain at “Level 4: Red - Leave the country immediately.” There are approximately 3,000 Taiwanese citizens in the Middle East, including 22 in Bahrain, 23 in Oman, 50 in Kuwait, 300 in the UAE, 2,000 in Saudi Arabia, 200 in Qatar, 124 in Jordan, 262 in Israel, and four in Iran, per CNA.
The ministry uses a four-tier travel alert system, with gray, yellow, orange, and red indicating escalating levels of danger. For emergencies, Taiwanese in the Middle East can contact the nearest Taiwan representative office, or have family call the ministry's toll-free emergency hotline at +886-800-085-095.
On Saturday, the US and Israel jointly carried out airstrikes on Iran, and Iran’s armed forces retaliated by attacking multiple US and Israeli facilities in the region. On Sunday, US President Donald Trump warned that operations against Iran are ongoing and could continue for up to a month until all objectives are achieved.
