TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Online check-in systems at Taoyuan International Airport crashed Sunday morning, the final day of the 228 holiday weekend.
Passengers began reporting problems shortly after 9 a.m., and the airport confirmed system abnormalities at 9:40 a.m., per CNA. The airport’s SITA data management system was unable to link with individual airline computer systems, forcing a halt to check-in procedures at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
For nearly an hour and a half, airlines conducted check-in manually and issued handwritten boarding passes, per UDN. Many passengers complained the airport was slow to respond and implement backup measures, leading to long lines and delays.
Secondary check-in systems were activated at 11:15 a.m., and operations have since returned to normal. The airport said it launched response measures immediately after the connectivity issue was discovered and coordinated with airlines and ground staff to minimize disruptions to boarding and departure operations.
Technicians from SITA resolved the problem by repairing faulty equipment, per UDN. One Delta Air Lines flight (DL68) carrying 304 passengers was delayed by about one hour due to the connectivity issue.
