TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday raised its travel advisory for all of Israel from orange to red, urging all Taiwanese to leave immediately.
The decision is in response to airstrikes launched by the US and Israel against Iran on Saturday and rapidly escalating tensions in the Middle East, per the foreign ministry. The travel alert for Iran remains at red.
MOFA said it has instructed Taiwan’s representative office in Israel and other missions in the Middle East to monitor developments and has activated emergency response mechanisms. Taiwan’s overseas offices are maintaining close contact with Taiwanese expatriates and nationals in the region, urging them to remain vigilant, prioritize personal safety, and follow local government security guidelines.
There are currently about 264 Taiwanese citizens residing in Israel and four in Iran, MOFA said. All are reported safe at this time.
The foreign ministry said those already in the region are advised to maintain close contact with Taiwan’s overseas missions so the government can promptly assess conditions and provide necessary assistance. The ministry said it would stay in communication with allied countries and conduct reviews to determine further response actions as needed.
